Matthew 6:21
Where your heart is will be where your treasure is. Can't you tell where people's heart lies by their words? Have you ever talked to a person who loves their car? They know everything about it-how many spark plugs it has, how many miles per gallon it gets, how much horsepower it has, etc. Or people who like clothes? They can match this lipstick, with these pants, with these shoes, but not this hat, etc. When God is our biggest treasure, He is what we will talk about most.
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Let your words be few. People who know what they are going to say, say it. Evander Hollyfield probably knew exactly what he was going to say after the fight before he even stepped foot in the ring. Do you know why? Because God is in his heart, God is his treasure.
Ecclesiastes 10:12
Wise words are gracious. Giving the glory to God is wise. Isn't it wonderful to hear someone saying "Praise the Lord! He has provided for me!" We need to hear more of that kind of talk.
1 Corinthians 3:19
Worldly wisdom is foolishness to God. I heard Lawrence Taylor speak on television, he is an ex-football player. He played linebacker for the New York Giants until he quit in 1993. Do you know why he quit? He was addicted to cocaine and suspended twice from the National Football League. So, he decided to quit. But on television, he said "No one is smarter than me. No one is as mentally strong as I am. I am the best. I am the best." This kind of arrogance has no respect for God. This kind of arrogance does not give God the glory. Self-praise is the opposite of God praise.
Jeremiah 13:16
Give glory to God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Do everything to the glory of God. This verse doesn't say do some things to the glory of God, does it? This verse doesn't say wash your car to the glory of God, but not your dog, does it? It doesn't say to work at your job to the glory of God, but workout at your gym to the glory of man. Every single thing we do should be done to the glory of God. If you talk to a stranger about Jesus thank Him for the chance to share the gospel. When you pray, thank Him for your voice. When you brush your teeth, thank Him for your hands and teeth. When you take a shower, thank Him for the soap. Do you catch the drift? Don't forget God or neglect Him from any aspect of your life. Practice talking to God all the time. Forgetting to talk to God is like forgetting to breathe. It is a life or death situation. Without God we face physical death and spiritual death. It's not hard. You don't even have to talk out loud. Just pray throughout the day and give him the glory for all things.
Psalm 150:6
Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.
Praise is a natural reaction to loving thoughts. People praise all types of things: their favorite actor or actress, football player, car, perfume, or whatever. And they usually encourage us to join them in praise. Don't you like so and so? If our treasure is God, we should be saying "Don't you love the Lord? He is so awesome!"
Revelation 14:7
1) Fear God. 2) Give glory to God. 3) Worship God. These three commands are listed in order for a reason. First we fear God. We realize that He is in total control of everything, including our salvation. We know through His Word that He promises us salvation by faith alone. So, we give glory to God. As we give glory to God, we choose to worship Him. How can we not worship such a loving God? One who lets us have so much freedom? One who lets us have friends and food and clothes? One who lets us have hands and legs that work so we can brush our teeth?
